This course is suitable if you work or want to work as a teacher/trainer/tutor in Further Education Colleges, adult and community education, the voluntary sector, commerce, industry, the public sector or HM forces.

The AET Award is a mandatory minimum qualification for all those teaching in the Learning and Skills Sector and replaces the old PTLLS qualification.

This Level 3 Award in Education and Training course is suitable for those people wishing to gain a threshold teaching qualification in the sector or those who would like to try teaching for the first time.

Introduction to the course

If you are new to the lifelong learning sector and do not have any prior teaching experience or qualifications, the Award in Education and Training Level 3 – formerly known as PTLLS – will take your career forward.

The Level 3 Award in Education and Training- AET covers:

Roles, responsibilities and relationships in lifelong learning
Understanding and using inclusive learning and teaching approaches to plan and deliver inclusive teaching sessions
Principles of assessment in the sector

It will also provide training in how to give constructive feedback to students.

The Level 3 Award in Education and Training qualification is an initial teacher training course, so you are not expected to have prior teaching experience. You are required to have evidence of Level 3 vocational skills for the area in which you want to train/teach if you progress into teaching in the further education sector.

You should also have good written and spoken English and be IT literate (Level 2). If you want to progress into teaching vocational subjects, you will also need to have at least three years’ industry experience.

A wide range of teaching methods are used to meet your learning requirements, including lectures, group activities, workshops, tutorials and sessions in assignment writing.

The qualification will be assessed by a combination of assignments and observation of teaching or training. The teaching will be a simulation of teaching (micro-teaching) to your peers on the course.

Upon completion of the Level 3 Award in Education and Training course you can then look at moving on to the level 4 Certificate in Education and Training and the Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training.

Who is this course for?

We designed this Level 3 Award in Education and Training course mainly for two types of individuals, the ones who want to start their career in teaching and the ones who are already professional teachers.

The first group will solely need this course for their complete understanding and step by step guide to becoming a teacher. However, the second group can enrich their status as teachers with industry recognised national level teaching qualification for developing their career.

Entry Requirements

Students should normally have at least a Level 3 (i.e. A-Level/BTEC equivalent) qualification in the subject they wish to teach and have a reasonable command of English, Numeracy and IT.

Required Documents: You will be asked to submit a copy of identification documents such as a passport or driving licence.

Method of Assessment

There is no formal examination. Students must complete three written assignments and one Micro teach session, which can be submitted as a recorded video. All assignments must be submitted within three months of course commencement. There is an additional charge of £195 for your assessments and certificate, which is not payable until you submit your assessments.

Certification

After successful submission of your assessment, you will receive Level 3 Award in Education and Training Certificate from Edexcel.

Career path

After the successful completion of the Level 3 Award in Education and Training course, you will be able to work as a teacher/ trainer/ instructor in the lifelong teaching and academic sector. With this course, you will be recognised as a qualified and experienced trainer who can lead a group of students successfully and also earn a good salary. This course also helps you to become a freelance instructor in many fields.
